California’s new Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) map shows that much of San Diego County is now considered high risk for wildfires. With new regulations under Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-18-25, homeowners are being urged to strengthen their property’s defense.

What is "Zone 0"?

Zone 0, the first 5 feet surrounding your home, is the most critical area in your defensible space. The goal: reduce fire ignition risk by keeping this perimeter clear of flammable materials and designing it with fire-resistant features.

The regulations will likely prohibit combustible materials such as wooden fences, mulch, and flammable vegetation within this zone.

Updating your fencing is one of the smartest ways to make your property safer and compliant. Non-combustible or ignition-resistant fencing materials can help protect your home — and may even enhance your curb appeal while meeting new wildfire safety standards.

It’s never too early to create a safer, smarter perimeter. Strengthen your Zone 0 today — and get peace of mind that your fence is built for both beauty and protection.
